Would you like Basil Fawlty to Run Your Hotel?

I was reminiscing about the good old days with a friend the other day. We got chatting about some of the fantastic old comedy shows that we used to tune into back in the 1970′s

She was saying that one of her all time favourites used to be Fawlty Towers, in which John Cleese played the main character.

I had to agree that this show was British comedy at its very finest, and certainly caused a great amount of laughter, something that nowadays seems to be sadly lacking.

We got on to talking about the stars of the show and actually had a bit of a row about John Cleese and his real life wife. My friend was absolutely convinced that John Cleese had been married to Prunella Scales, who played his other half in the show, but I knew he was actually married to Connie Booth who played the character of Polly.

It’s weird that such a stupid chat can get so out of hand, but you know what it can be like when 2 women both think they are right, neither of them like to admit that they might be wrong.

In the end we made the joint decision that the only way to find out which one of was right was to carry out a search in Google. Well of course, it turned out that I was right, which didn’t go down very well with my friend.

She said that perhaps I should think about booking a self catering Torquay holiday. I said that I would rather visit some of the hotels in Devon in the hope that one of them might actually have a real life Hotel owner like Basil Fawlty.

Of course nowadays in Torquay there are plenty of activities to keep you occupied. One of my friends who organises bowling holidays for her Club was pretty impressed with Torquay during a recent visit. She thought that Torquay was so great that she has already booked up for a couple of bowling tournaments for next year.

I bet she is hoping that not all Hotel owners from Torquay are like Basil Fawlty, on the other hand, there would never be a dull moment!!
